The course is set. The bell is about to ring. Your mind may want to jump ahead to the result, replay yesterday’s mistake, or imagine every possible outcome. That is human. It is also a cue to return to the one place you can actually ride: this moment.
Mental skills do not remove pressure. They give you a way to respond to it. Start by noticing where your attention has gone. Then choose one useful cue for the next few seconds: your breath, your line, your rhythm, or the connection in your hand.
Think in small, rideable pieces
A long list of instructions rarely helps at the in-gate. Try a short phrase that connects to something you have practiced. “Find the rhythm” is easier to carry into the ring than a dozen corrections. Between efforts, return to that cue again.
Afterward, reflect with curiosity. What helped you stay present? Where did your focus drift? What would you like to practice next time? The goal is not a perfect mind. It is a reliable way back to the ride you are in.
